Visit of Bishop Alastair and Caroline Redfern to Delhi to meet with the Church of North India

On the first day we went to visit a Church in Tundla, just outside Agra. Bishop Alastair preached with a Hindi Translator. The town was a railway town so knew of Derby. This is a picture of Bishop Alastair with the priest the Revd J P Kelly.

Dr Caleb has been on the planning group for the Lambeth Conference.

Particular areas of concern were AIDS and response to the Tsunami in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Later Bishop Alastair visited schools and health and community projects which the Church of North India is leading.

A poster in the CNI Office:

"This is a story about four people: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when actually Nobody asked Anybody."

Bishop Alastair preached at the installation of the Rt Revd. Sunil Kamar Singhi as Bishop of Delhi on the 9th October 2007 at the Cathedral of the Redemption, New Delhi. He is pictured with the new Bishop and diocesan clergy. We also see the cathedral and people at the celebration afterwards.

Bishop Alastair at St Thomas’ School, Delhi. The Bishop is visiting the library with the Principal Mrs Anuradha Amos, Dr Enos das Pradhan and other teachers. He also visited the art class – interesting to note the collages on osteoporosis and consumer issues.

This Community Health in a very deprived area of Delhi received funding from the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal). The leader of the project, seen with the Bishop, is a very inspiring Hindu who is a follower of Jesus Christ. The project is transforming the lives of everybody in the community. Many families live in a single room, and are major issues ranging from basic hygiene to TB. The project is working hard to address these and at the same time provides space for children to meet, read and learn. Older children play a major role in educating younger children at the centre and in taking out messages about family health in to the community.
