The September Sponsored Bike Ride logoThe Route

The Bishop and his wife made two main stops along the route, one in the Chesterfield area and one in the Derby area. At each stop, special events for the local community were held.

  • 9.30am: Bishop Alastair, Caroline and guests had breakfast in Morton, Stonebroom.
  • 10.15am: A short service held at Holy Cross Church, in Morton.
  • 10.30am: The bike began begins with a send-off from the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Mr Roger Wardle.
  • 11:45am: The Bishop stopped at Danesmoor where he previewed the opening of the Barnabas Centre, a church building created from scratch for community use. Natasha Engel MP also attended and cycled with the Bishop to the next stop.
  • 12.15pm: The Bishop arrived at St Bartholomew’s Church, in Clay Cross, where a community event was held, which included a BBQ lunch, bouncy castle and rock band playing.
  • 2pm-5pm: Route details for Derby (PDF). At 4pm the Bishop met Gary Summerfield, Security Manager for Westfield Shopping Centres, and received their sponsorship money.
  • 5pm: The couple arrived at St Paul’s church, in Chester Green, where a second community event was held. Activities included a BBQ, bouncy castle, and a free prize draw.

Please come and join the Bishop at these events whether you are part of the cycle ride or not. All are very welcome. All who come along are invited to enter the free prize draw to win a haircut and massage, donated by Derby’s Sally Montague salon. There will be a prize for a child too: a free half day cycle hire, accompanied by an adult, at the National Park Cycle hire Centres in Ashbourne, Derwent or Parsley Hay.
