Church 4 Community
The
Route
The Bishop and his wife made two main stops along
the route, one in the Chesterfield area and one in the Derby area.
At each stop, special events for the local community were held.
- 9.30am: Bishop Alastair, Caroline and guests
had breakfast in Morton, Stonebroom.
- 10.15am: A short service held at Holy Cross Church, in
Morton.
- 10.30am: The bike began begins with a send-off from
the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Mr Roger Wardle.
- 11:45am: The Bishop stopped at
Danesmoor where he previewed the opening of the Barnabas Centre,
a church
building
created from scratch for community use. Natasha Engel MP also attended
and cycled with the Bishop to the next stop.
- 12.15pm: The Bishop arrived at St Bartholomew’s
Church, in Clay Cross, where a community event was held, which
included a BBQ lunch, bouncy castle and rock band playing.
- 2pm-5pm: Route
details for Derby (PDF). At 4pm the Bishop met Gary Summerfield,
Security Manager for Westfield Shopping Centres, and received
their sponsorship money.
- 5pm: The couple arrived at St Paul’s church, in Chester
Green, where a second community event was held. Activities
included a BBQ, bouncy castle, and a free prize draw.
Please come and join the Bishop at these events whether you are
part of the cycle ride or not. All are very welcome. All who come
along are invited to enter the free prize draw to win a haircut
and massage, donated by Derby’s Sally Montague salon. There
will be a prize for a child too: a free half day cycle hire, accompanied
by an adult, at the National Park Cycle hire Centres in Ashbourne,
Derwent or Parsley Hay.
