Bishop of Derby welcomes Archbishop appointment

The Bishop of Derby, Dr Alastair Redfern, today issued the warmest of congratulations to the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and said that he would be prayed for across the Diocese of Derby.

Dr Redfern said today: "I welcome the appointment of the Bishop of Durham who is a person of outstanding gifts who will bring appropriate leadership for the next chapter of our church's history.

He added: "I am sure that the whole Diocese will join me in praying God's blessing on him."

The Bishop of Derby will join the current Archbishop of Canterbury and his fellow bishops along with elected representatives of all Church of England dioceses for Dr Williams’ last meeting of the General Synod in London in 10 days time.
