The Calcutta Cathedral Relief Service

Last Updated on Monday, 09 May 2011 15:18

The CRS was established in 1971 in the aftermath of the Bangladesh war, to undertake emergency relief measures among refugees who came to Calcutta in their thousands. over the years, the CRS has moved from its role as a relief and charitable organisation to one of the leading development agencies in West Bengal.

The Diocese of Derby has forged close links with the Cathedral Relief Service through the Church of North India link and the Friends of the CRS. In 2010, Bishop Alastair visited Calcutta and was moved not only by the level of poverty but also the incredible work of the CRS which started 40 years ago.

In mid September,  Mr Rig David, the Director of the CRS, will be travelling from India to visit Derby to support the Harvest Appeal. He will provide a valuable insight into the contribution which the CRS makes to the lives of the children in Calcutta's slums.
