As part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Diocese of Durgapur (India) the Bishop of Repton, Humphrey Southern, Canon David Truby (Team Rector, Wirksworth Team Ministry) and Revd Robert Frost (Methodist Minister in Wirksworth) will next week be visiting the Diocese in India (from 25 Jan - 6 Feb).

Within the Derbyshire Churches/CNI Partnership the Diocese of Durgapur has a highly successful link with Churches Together in Wirksworth (www.churchestogetherderbyshire.org.uk).

The delegation from the Diocese of Derby will first visit the Diocese of Calcutta where they will be guests of the Bishop of Calcutta, Ashoke Biswas, who visited the Diocese of Derby last year.

Whilst in Calcutta, Bishop Southern will be preaching at St James’ Church, Kolkata (29 Jan). The delegation will also visit the Bishop’s College, Kolkata (30 Jan).

The celebrations will climax over the weekend of 3-5 Feb when there will be a special dinner on the Friday (3 Feb) and a Service of Thanksgiving on the Sunday (5 Feb).

Bishop Southern, as Chair of the Partnership Council, will be offering the greetings of the Derbyshire Churches-CNI Partnership at the Thanksgiving Service.

During the tour Bishop Southern will also be visiting Delhi for a conversation with Mr Alwan Massih, the newly elected General Secretary of the Church of North India (CNI) and Bishop Philip Marandih, who was elected Moderator of the CNI at their synod last year. (www.cnisynod.org)
