NEWS FROM DERBY CATHEDRAL

The Very Rev’d Dr Martin Kitchen is to resign as Dean of Derby with effect from 31 December. From 1 January 2008 he will take up a dual role as Priest in Charge, House for Duty, of The South Rodings Parish in the Colchester Area of the Diocese of Chelmsford as well as Theological Consultant to the Ministry Division of the Archbishops’ Council.

Dr Kitchen said today, “I am delighted that these two possibilities have opened up for me at this time, and am grateful to all those who have made this transition possible. I extend my best wishes to the Cathedral and Diocese of Derby, and I look forward with great excitement to the opportunities which lie ahead with the people of the South Rodings, with the Diocese of Chelmsford and with the Ministry Division.”

The Bishop of Derby, the Right Reverend Dr Alastair Redfern made the following statement: “I am very pleased that Martin has found opportunities which are appropriate for his many gifts. This has been a testing time for him and for everyone concerned with the Cathedral, and I know that we can now all look to the future with confidence.”

The Vice Dean of Derby, the Venerable Dr Christopher Cunliffe said: “As a friend and colleague, I am delighted that Martin has found new opportunities to exercise his gifts as a respected theological educator. All at Derby Cathedral wish him well for the future.”
