Welcome to the website of the Diocese of Derby. We aim to offer an introduction to our work and witness for the Church of England in Derbyshire. All information and activities highlighted have a common root in our desire to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in ways which are most appropriate for the amazing and testing times in which we live.
On 12 July the General Synod of our church supported a recommendation from a specially appointed committee to proceed towards the consecration of women as Bishops. There has been considerable controversy and confusion in the media, and amongst some members of our church. There are three things we need to note prayerfully and carefully.
The Revd Dr John Davies will be installed as Dean of Derby at a service in the Cathedral at 4pm on Saturday 9 October.
The diocese is looking for a new Stewardship Officer who would also be Vicar of Swanick and Pentrich. It is part of a strategy to increase the resources that are available to support churches as they encourage their members to see giving as an essential element of their discipleship.

This year’s appeal is in partnership with the church of Uganda to help resource them to do the everyday work of the Gospel in North-Western Uganda. The church is experiencing massive growth. Bishop Joel, Diocesan Bishop since 2006, has confirmed more than 30,000 new members of the church over the last four years.
